WASHINGTON CYC BASKETBALL

Washington CYC Men's Open and Women's Open Basketball Teams

The core of the Washington CYC Basketball program was established in the early to mid 90's. We participated in local Chinese Leagues, Rec Leagues, and local tournaments. We became more dedicated as a team during 1995 in preparation for the 1996 Boston NACBAIT, hosted by the Boston Knights. Up until that time, Washington had not had an official representative on the National scene since the Wing Wor teams of the 1980's. Since then, we have participated in 10 Nationals, innumerable East Coast tournaments, and even traveled to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas in an effort to face the highest level of competition available in Asian basketball. In addition, we have hosted countless CYC Invitational Basketball Tournaments since 1999 in order to provide other teams with the opportunity to take part in a structured and competitive atmosphere. Over the past few years, we have expanded our program to include 2 Mens teams, a Women's team (1999 NACBAIT Champions, 3 Final Fours), a Senior Men's team, and Boys' Junior teams in the 18 & under, 16 & under, 14 & under divisions. In 2002, Washington CYC Basketball was also designated as the host of the 2002 North American Chinese Invitational Basketball Tournament, which was held over Memorial Day Weekend in Boyds, Maryland. We were also one of the main organizations contributing to host the 2007 NACBAIT in Mesa, Arizona. Although most of the original players of the CYC teams of the 1990's no longer are major players on the Mens A team, many have moved on to coaching, organizational, or B team roles, as we continue to promote the growth of CYC Basketball. Chris Lee was recently named to the NACBA's Top 25 Players of the past 25 years in 2005. Kalyn Lee of the China Dolls was also named to the NACBA's Top 10 Women's Players of the past 10 years in 2008.

Off the basketball court, we are a closely knit group, composed almost entirely of brothers, sisters, cousins, and close family friends. We cherish the opportunity to take what is essentially a group of relatives and close friends who have grown up together, and compete against the best Asian basketball players in North America. This closeness translates into an ability to support each other at all times, and has been a large factor in the success of CYC Basketball. Another factor which has aided us immensely has been the unbelievable support that our friends and family have given us. Whether through financial support, cheering us on during our games and tournaments, helping out with CYC Invitational Basketball Tournaments, or just simply being there to lend us moral support, they have always supported our endeavors. We appreciate all the immeasurable ways that you have been there for us, and we would like to dedicate all of our past, present and future accomplishments to you.
