The Washington, D.C. Chinese Youth Club (CYC) is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, which was originally established in 1939. Our goal is to provide a framework for preserving and sharing our distinct Chinese culture and heritage with others. This has been accomplished primarily through Men's, Women's, and Youth athletic programs, as CYC has become a fixture on the North American Asian tournament scene in volleyball as well as basketball. In addition to our participation in these events, we consantly host and co-host numerous volleyball and basketball tournaments throughout the year. The Pre-NACBAIT Classic was held in April 2008, where 32 teams took part. The Winter Asian Basketball Invitational is upcoming as well in December. Washington CYC will also be one of the driving forces behind the 29th Annual North American Chinese Basketball Association Invitational Basketball Tournament and Volleyball Tournament, which will be held in Fort Lauderdale in May, 2009.
In addition to our countless athletic endeavors, Washington CYC is proud to be consistently and intricately involved with the annual Chinese Year's Celebration and the Ten-Ten Celebration in Chinatown, Washington, D.C. These cultural events afford us the opportunity to share our Chinese Lion Dance and Chinese Dragon Dance performances with the community. Lion dancing is a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, CYC also actively participates in many other facets of the community, such as: coordinating mentoring programs, community service, youth tutoring, elder home visits, local Chinese school liasions, pro bono tax counseling services, cultural banquets, family association picnics, and annual charity golf outings to benefit the community. With an eye on the future, we have also begun to implement college scholarship programs through our athletic programs, tournaments, and events. All participants in these tournaments are eligible to be named the recipient of these awards, whether or not they are a member of our Washington CYC organization. We hope to promote community service, develop leadership, and promote academic excellence not only in the Washington DC Greater Metropolitan Area, but as far as away as we can reach out.
