About Us

Our Legacy — Founded in 1939

The Chinese Youth Club (CYC) is one of the oldest Chinese American youth organizations in the United States. Established in 1939, CYC has spent more than 85 years creating community, developing young leaders, and preserving cultural traditions in the Greater Washington DC area.

As a fully volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, CYC thrives because of the dedication of families, alumni, and leaders who invest their time to support the next generation.

Our Mission

CYC exists to help youth grow into confident, community-minded leaders through hands-on involvement in four core areas:

  • Athletics

  • Community Service

  • Cultural Activities

  • Education

We believe every young person deserves the chance to develop the skills, values, and character needed to thrive — in school, in their careers, and in their communities.

How We Build Strong Leaders

Our programs are designed to nurture identity and character through values that last a lifetime:

  • Teamwork

  • Good sportsmanship

  • Integrity

  • Respect

  • Volunteerism

These experiences help youth discover their strengths, learn responsibility, and build a foundation they carry into adulthood.

Mentorship at the Heart of CYC

Mentorship is one of CYC’s defining traditions.

Senior members guide younger participants, helping them:

  • Connect with their cultural identity

  • Explore their passions

  • Develop their unique talents

  • Build meaningful friendships and community ties

This multi-generational model ensures that leadership, belonging, and values are passed forward year after year.

What Makes CYC Unique

  • Fully volunteer-run

  • Multi-generational leadership and mentorship

  • Programs that develop both skill and character

  • Supportive, family-centered environment

  • A legacy of heritage, community impact, and cultural pride

A Tradition That Continues

From our early beginnings in the 1930s to today’s vibrant athletic and cultural programs, CYC remains committed to preparing young people to make a positive contribution to the world — as teammates, community members, and future leaders.
